2000 The
catalog
is a success! I will only be attending Fair as a spectator, but I will
post any photographs that are available.
Tudor
Costume and Fashion Click to go to Amazon.com and check out my
favorite
book on renaissance costumes- it won't tell you how to sew, but it is
fantastic
research!
Patterns
of Fashion : The Cut and... This is a great book for real patterns
of actual renaissance clothing. I do not offer sewing/construction
help-
but do highly recommend this book!
1999 Time to get down to
business, and take
a year off from doing fairs.
1998 This season has been
a change. In order
to achieve personal goals (the success of my
Catalog,
doing volunteer crisis counseling), I have not been in the court
this year. Instead I am playing, wearing all of my favorite clothes,
and
helping out Ruth Thompson in her booth.
1997 This is the
year of Her Royal
Majesty Queen Elizabeth's arrival at the Kansas City
RenaissanceFestival,
and I was one of her five ladies in waiting. I played Lady Mary
Radcliffe...and
it was a great year. Thephoto page shows the changes in style of court
dress we made to accommodate the jump in year to the year 1575.In these
photographs you can see the arrival of the bumroll, partlets, and ruffs
to the women's gowns, as well asmore pumpkin pants and ruffs for the
men
as well. Surprisingly, once you got used to it, the new fashions
werereally
very nice, and fun to wear. After so many years in Tudor English
clothes,
it was a fun change.
Some 1997 Photos were taken by Karen Troeh, one of
the Ladies in
Waiting, and a master of visual arts.
1996 - Cardinal Wolsey was
at the Canterbury
fair (Kansas City) for the marriage of Mary Tudor in this years plot. I
played one of the four daughters of the Cardinal, whom we all called
"PaPa".
Needless to say, we were a fun bunch of women! Each weekend of the fair
we changed our costume to reflect the theme of the weekend at the
fair.
We dresses as court ladies, kissing bandits, genies,
fairy tale characters,
et cetera...and a good time was had by all...it was great fun being
scandalous
for a change!
1995 - My characters name
was Lady Margaret
and I was the court Dance Mistress that year, and taught a variety of
English
Contra dances at the fair each day. These are dances in the Playford
Dancing
Master, and/or taught at Christmas School, and folk dance school taught
in my home town every year.
1993-4 - These are the
shop years. Silks
& Velvets. My very own little shop at the fair. This is also
the
year, or two years rather, when I played an elf, yes, ears and all... I
have sold the shop, and am doing custom work and tailoring full time
now,
but it was a great start into the fair.
