Renaissance Hats and Headdresses

Queen Elizabeth 1564
Ribbon Crown

They were also worn alone, See right, and were recently seen in the move Ever After, worn with a braid of hair across the temples.

My version of this style is  made of interlocking ribbons, with a ribbon around the edges, adjustable for fit. Every intersection of ribbon is secured with a small faux pearl. This does need to be secured to the hair with  bobby pins. $65.
English Cap inspired by the Italian design 1560
This is what is commonly referred to as a French Hood. The hood term is referring to the drop of fabric on the back of the hat that was actually a separate piece (I make them as one) to hold the hair. Please click here for a photo of four of us wearing this headdress.

The main headdress is made with velvet, or brocade in your choice of available color.   The back hood that covers you hair is made of fabric to match.
The headdress is either plain, or with a row of gold or silver (please specify) beads and pearls.  The edge of the headdress touching your hair has an extra pleated white edge trimmed with gold or silver (please specify.)
It is held to your head with a center comb and a tie around your hair.
Cost $100 (with beadwork and trim $200)
These are not available for order or delivery during September or October.

Please see the Gown pricing chart for costs of this headdress when ordered with a gown.

 Anne Boleyn 1532
This heart shaped hat is a classic, flattering shape. I have frequently seen this referred to as the Mary Queen of Scots Hat.  It is actually of French Design, called an Attifet.  The period hat frames the face, and the back is similar to the french hood. I made mine as an entire hat, with a flat simple back.

The finished hat photographed here is green velvet, and has a row of pearls, and gold beads. It can be made in any color, fabric, and with any trim. When worn, it frames the face in a heart, and looks good with your hair up, as is period, or down about the shoulders. Wearing this hat made even a ruff worth while.
The main headdress is made with velvet in your choice of color: black, navy, royal blue, deep red or forest green.
The headdress has a row of gold or silver (please specify) beads and pearls.
Cost $200, $150 if purchased with a gown.
These are not available for order or delivery during September or October.
